The Rise of Pickleball in Charlotte

November 17, 2025

Charlotte has become one of America’s pickleball hotspots. According to a recent report, the city now ranks fourth nationwide for pickleball enthusiasm, boasting about 227 courts and 110 sports stores (Charlotte ranked #4 most pickleball-obsessed city in the U.S.). This infrastructure means there are many places to play — and a growing community eager to welcome newcomers.

The boom mirrors national momentum: participation has grown about 223% over the past three years (2024 State of Pickleball Report | SFIA & Pickleheads). Charlotte’s own Club Pickleball is evolving from a recreational group into a nationally competitive team. Local nonprofits such as Black Pickleball & Co. are also helping spread the game within underserved communities.

Charlotte hosts competitive and social tournaments throughout the year. The Charlotte Gold Cup at Pickleball Charlotte’s Sharon Lakes facility draws players from across the Southeast; the 2025 event (September 20‑21) attracted more than 253 participants (The Charlotte Gold Cup @ Pickleball Charlotte Sharon Lakes) and showcased our vibrant community.

Looking ahead, several trends will shape the sport. Tech‑enhanced gameplay, luxury facilities, pro leagues and corporate wellness programs will make pickleball more immersive and inclusive (The Future of Pickleball: Top Trends Shaping 2025 & Beyond). Innovations like smart paddles and balls that track spin and speed, connected courts with automated line‑calling and live‑streaming, and wearable training devices will help players improve. Meanwhile, brands are designing upscale venues that blend racket sports with dining and social experiences. Eco‑friendly surfaces and sustainable facility designs are also emerging.

Charlotte will soon see new venues, including a 35,000‑sq‑ft indoor facility at Camp North End called Tipsy Pickle. This two‑story project will feature six indoor courts, dining spaces, a Tex‑Mex menu and capacity for more than 930 guests (Massive pickleball and gaming facility opening soon at Camp North End). The complex will allow players to reserve courts up to two weeks in advance and adds year‑round playing opportunities, supporting Charlotte’s growing pickleball community.
