What Is a Player Rating?

A pickleball player rating is a numerical representation of a player’s current skill level and on-court performance. Ratings help create fair, competitive matchups — regardless of age, gender, or how long you’ve been playing — so you spend more time in fun, balanced games.

At Peak Time, player ratings are used across many programs including Open Play, Leagues, Round Robins, Tournaments, and other structured events. We also offer options that do not require a rating (beginner clinics, introductory open play, social events).

Two Rating Options

1) Peak Time Club Rating (In-House)

We built the Peak Time Club Rating so we can group players more accurately inside our club environment. Not every player has a fully developed DUPR profile — our club rating helps place you quickly and fairly.

Our staff assign ratings using:

  • Skills checklists (serve/return consistency, dinking, volleys, transition, resets)
  • On-court observation during live games
  • Session performance in structured play (decision-making, court positioning, consistency under pressure)

2) DUPR (Industry Standard)

DUPR is the most common rating system used across pickleball. It uses match results and an algorithm that updates over time, allowing ratings to remain dynamic and reflective of your current skill. DUPR helps unify ratings across locations, ages, and gender, and it’s commonly used for competition outside your home club.

Why Peak Time Uses Both

Your Peak Time Club Rating and DUPR may not match perfectly — that’s normal.

  • DUPR depends heavily on the quantity and quality of recorded match results
  • Club Ratings consider skills + play patterns + observation, even with limited recorded scores
  • For Peak Time programming, we may accept either rating depending on the event

How to Get Your Initial Rating

Option A: Peak Time Rating Evaluation (fastest)

Register through CourtReserve, choose the level that best matches your self-rating. Our staff will observe your play and assign an initial Club Rating so you can jump into the right sessions.

Option B: Attend a Clinic or Lesson

If you take a clinic, lesson, or instructional league, your coach can provide an initial rating based on your performance.

Option C: Create a DUPR Account

Download the DUPR app, create a free profile, and begin entering match results. The more valid results you enter, the more accurate your DUPR becomes.

DUPR at Peak Time

Using DUPR is simple:

  1. Create a free account in the DUPR app
  2. Start recording match results
  3. Keep playing — your rating becomes more accurate with more matches

We strongly encourage players to maintain a DUPR profile for a widely recognized rating outside Peak Time.

Rating Review Sessions

Peak Time Rating Reviews are structured evaluation sessions where players:

  • Warm up and receive a quick briefing
  • Play competitive games against players in a similar level band
  • Receive in-session verbal feedback from instructors/staff
  • May request additional feedback after the session

Once completed, your updated Peak Time Club Rating will appear in your player profile.

How to Get Re-Rated

  • Rating Review Session (most popular) — register on CourtReserve for a structured evaluation at your current level
  • Build your DUPR — if your DUPR stabilizes at a different level, we may recommend moving you
  • Coaching progression — your coach can recommend a rating update after demonstrated improvement
